SUMMARY:Ocean Swim\, CANCELED Tuesday\, October 11th at HB Tower 9 (City Beach) at 7:30 am
DESCRIPTION:CANCELED\nPLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE: 7:30 AM START for Tuesdays & Thursdays\nYou’re invited to our ocean swim: meet at (Huntington Beach City) Tower 9 off PCH & Huntington Street. Meet at 7:30am and in the water by 7:40am. Usually done by 8:15ish\, depending on length of swim.\nConditions have been good recently\, but some caveats:\nWater temp has fluctuated recently. It’s been 61-68 within the past two weeks. Generally\, Surfline is more accurate with temps while MSW is less accurate. MagicSeaWeed seems to add about 3-5 degrees to the actual water temp. Perhaps they’re trying to lure more beachgoers.\nOh\, and the wave conditions have been influenced heavily by the wind and the swells. Some mornings it’s been choppy\, others\, it’s been very calm.  Wind has been the greater creator of surface chop recently.\nKeep in mind that if there is a marine layer\, it will make it feel a little cooler. \nCome join us for good conditions! If it’s sunny\, should be great!\nOne Note: \nWe can escort you through the waves if you need help.\nRecently\, we’ve been swimming 1\,000-1\,500 yards. If there are enough swimmers\, we can break into 2 groups\, with one swimming ~1\,200 yards and the other 2\,000-2\,500 yards.\nWater might feel a little cool to the uninitiated. So\, pack a hot beverage to drink immediately upon exiting the water (not your car). This is more important than drying off. But\, definitely dry off once you’ve taken in some hot fluids. At a water temperature of 60+\, you should be fine with even tepid fluids.\nWe look forward to seeing you there!\nP.S. If you do need fins to help you swim\, that’s cool. \nYou can wear fins for extra propulsion and confidence through the waves.\nWe’re fin-friendly. Some of us are triathletes\, some are swim runners\, some are training for lifeguard tryouts\, some are interested in cold-water immersion. Heck\, some of us are in it for fun\, fitness and friends.\nWhatever your motivation\, you’re welcome to join us so long as you can swim 300 yards continuously.

SUMMARY:Ocean Swim\, Saturday\, September 17th at HB Tower 9 (City Beach) at 8 am
DESCRIPTION:There is a surf event this weekend. Be careful about parking.\nYou’re invited to our ocean swim: meet at (Huntington Beach City) Tower 9 off PCH & Huntington Street. Meet at 8:00am and in the water by 8:10am. Usually done by 8:45ish\, depending on length of swim.\nConditions have been good recently\, but some caveats:\nWater temp has fluctuated wildly. It’s been as low as 59 and as high as 72 within the past 6 weeks.\nOh\, and the wave conditions have been influenced heavily by the wind and the swells. Some mornings it’s been choppy\, others\, it’s been very calm.  Wind has been the greater creator of surface chop recently.\nKeep in mind that if there is a marine layer\, it will make it feel a little cooler. \nCome join us for good conditions! If it’s sunny\, should be great!\nOne Note: \nWe can escort you through the waves if you need help.\nRecently\, we’ve been swimming ~1\,000 yards.

It’s been as low as 59 a few times in late July and early August and as high as 69 in late July. This past Thursday (August 18th)\, it was ~63 F.\nOh\, and the wave conditions have been influenced heavily by the wind and the swells. Some mornings it’s been choppy\, others\, it’s been very calm. \nKeep in mind that if there is a marine layer\, it will make it feel a little cooler. \nCome join us for good conditions! If it’s sunny\, should be great!\nOne Note: \nWe can escort you through the waves if you need help. \nRecently\, we’ve been swimming ~1\,500 yards. If there are enough swimmers\, we can break into 2 groups\, with one swimming ~1\,500 yards and the other 2\,000-2\,500 yards. \nWater might feel a little cool to the uninitiated. So\, pack a hot beverage to drink immediately upon exiting the water (not your car). This is more important than drying off. But\, definitely dry off once you’ve taken in some hot fluids. At a water temperature of 60+\, you should be fine with even tepid fluids. \nWe look forward to seeing you there! \nP.S.

SUMMARY:HB Tower 9 Swim\, Thursday\, September 2nd at 6:45 AM
DESCRIPTION:You know the drill: meet at Tower 9 at 6:45 am. We’ll discuss conditions\, pair up and then enter the water ~7 am. \nMost likely\, we will split up into 2 groups. One group will swim about an hour and the other for about 30 minutes. You can choose your group. \nAs swells are strong\, mostly from the south\, we’ll swim heading to the south\, parallel to the shore. \nAll levels welcome. Most of us average 1:35-2:20/100m. But\, since the current is so strong\, your smartwatch will be stupefied by your yardage\, or lack thereof. \nP.S. Water temp has fluctuated recently. Most recently\, ~ 63 F. But\, assume it’s about 61-64 F and you’ll be fine. Air temp\, sun\, winds\, and humidity can also make it feel warmer/colder. \nWave height has been 2-3 ft recently\, easily manageable. We’ll talk you through shuffling\, duck-diving\, and bobbing. \nIf you’re unaccustomed to the cold\, bring a hot beverage in a thermos to Tower 9 (not your car). You’ll want to sip it about 2-4 minutes after exiting the water to offset the after drop. \nWe hope to see you there!
