SUMMARY:HB Tower 9 Swim\, Tuesday\, December 14th\, 8am.
DESCRIPTION:Group will decide on length and course of swim. Meet at 8:00\, in the water by 8:10. Usually out of the water by 8:50. Typically\, we’ve been swimming 1\,000-2\,000 yards\, depending on number of swimmers and water conditions. \nMost recently\, the water has been crystal clear\, low waves\, and 58 F. \nIf you’re unaccustomed to the cold\, bring a hot beverage in a thermos to Tower 9 (not your car). You’ll want to sip it about 2-4 minutes after exiting the water to offset the afterdrop.\nAll levels welcome. Most of us average 1:35-2:20/100m. If you’re a little slower\, don’t worry; we’re a nonjudgmental group. If you’re faster\, that’s awesome. \nOh\, and you can bring your fins\, especially if you’re a wee bit nervous about the waves and/or ocean swimming. Fins will give you the power to make it through any chop and likely increase your speed over your entire swim. \nP.S. Water temp has been 56-62 F recently. Air temp\, sun\, winds\, and humidity can also make you feel warmer/colder. You can check Surfline (check Huntington Street; it gives you a live camera on Tower 9\, but with ads interspersed every 30 seconds) and MagicSeaweed (check Huntington Pier as it’s the nearest location for MSW) for a recent forecast. Be warned\, though\, that Surfline can have a delay of a day and MSW tends to overestimate the water temp & windspeed by quite a bit.

You can check Surfline (check Huntington Street; it gives you a live camera to Tower 9) and MagicSeaweed (check Huntington Pier as it’s the nearest location for MSW) for a recent forecast. Be warned\, though\, that Surfline can have a delay of a day and MSW tends to overestimate the temp & winds by quite a bit. \nIf you’re unaccustomed to the cold\, bring a hot beverage in a thermos to Tower 9 (not your car). You’ll want to sip it about 2-4 minutes after exiting the water to offset the afterdrop. \nWe hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:HB Tower 9 Swim\, November 7th\, 8am
DESCRIPTION:WEEKEND TIME CHANGE: WE MEET AT 8\, SWIM BY 8:15! \nWe’re doing buoy swims if it’s mostly veterans\, tower swims if it’s mostly newbies. \nAll levels welcome. Most of us average 1:35-2:20/100m. If you’re a little slower\, don’t worry; we’re a nonjudgmental group. If you’re faster\, that’s awesome. \nOh\, and you can bring your fins\, especially if you’re a wee bit nervous about the waves. Fins will give you the power to make it through and likely increase your speed over your entire swim. \nP.S. Water temp has been ~ 60 F. Air temp\, sun\, winds\, and humidity can also make it feel warmer/colder. SUMMARY:HB Tower 9 Swim\, Sunday\, November 7th at 8 AM
DESCRIPTION:We’re doing buoy swims so long as conditions permit. Basically\, we start from Tower 9\, swim ~500 yards to the buoy out there\, and return. An entire round trip is about 1\,000 yards. If you want\, you can do it twice\, so you can choose how many yards you do. \nIf you’re unaccustomed to the cold\, bring a hot beverage in a thermos to Tower 9 (not your car). You’ll want to sip it about 2-4 minutes after exiting the water to offset the afterdrop.\nMost swimmers will take 12-24 minutes per buoy trip. The advantage is that it will replicate what you’ll encounter in a triathlon or open water swim. You’ll take off from the beach and have a buoy bobbing in the ocean to sight and then swim around. \nAll levels welcome. Most of us average 1:35-2:20/100m. We’ll talk you through shuffling\, duck-diving\, and bobbing. \nIf you’re unaccustomed to the cold\, bring a hot beverage in a thermos to Tower 9 (not your car). You’ll want to sip it about 2-4 minutes after exiting the water to offset the afterdrop. \nWe hope to see you there!

SUMMARY:HB Tower 9 Swim\, Saturday\, September 11th at 7:45 AM
DESCRIPTION:You know the drill: meet at Tower 9 at 7:45 am. We’ll discuss conditions\, pair up and then enter the water ~8 am. \nWe’re doing buoy swims so long as conditions permit. Basically\, we start from Tower 9\, swim ~500 yards to the buoy out there\, and return. If you want\, some of us will do it twice\, so you can choose how many yards you do. \nMost swimmers will take 12-24 minutes per buoy trip. The advantage is that it will replicate what you’ll encounter in a triathlon or open water swim. \nAll levels welcome. Most of us average 1:35-2:20/100m. \nP.S. Water temp has fluctuated recently. Most recently\, ~ 60 F. But\, assume it’s about 60-64 F and you’ll be fine. Air temp\, sun\, winds\, and humidity can also make it feel warmer/colder. \nWave height has been 2-3 ft recently\, easily manageable.

DESCRIPTION:You know the drill: meet at Tower 9 at 7:45 am. We’ll discuss conditions\, pair up and then enter the water ~8 am. \nMost likely\, we will split up into 2 groups. But\, since the current is so strong\, your smartwatch will be stupefied by your yardage\, or lack thereof. \nP.S. Water temp has fluctuated recently. Most recently\, ~ 65 F.
