HB Tower 9 Swim, Thursday, September 23rd at 6:45 AM

You know the drill: meet at Tower 9 at 6:45 am. We’ll discuss conditions, pair up and then enter the water ~7 am.
We’re doing buoy swims so long as conditions permit. Basically, we start from Tower 9, swim ~500 yards to the buoy out there, and return. An entire round trip is about 1,000 yards. If you want, you can do it twice, so you can choose how many yards you do.
Most swimmers will take 12-24 minutes per buoy trip. The advantage is that it will replicate what you’ll encounter in a triathlon or open water swim. You’ll take off from the beach and have a buoy bobbing in the ocean to sight and then swim around.
All levels welcome. Most of us average 1:35-2:20/100m.
P.S. Water temp has fluctuated recently. Most recently, ~ 60 F. Air temp, sun, winds, and humidity can also make it feel warmer/colder. You can check Surfline and MagicSeaweed for a recent forecast. Be warned, though, that Surfline can have a delay of a day and MSW tends to overestimate the temp by quite a bit.
Wave height is supposed to be 2-4 feet this week, definitely manageable. We’ll help talk you through shuffling, duck-diving, and bobbing. Definitely ask questions. We’re here to help you.
If you’re unaccustomed to the cold, bring a hot beverage in a thermos to Tower 9 (not your car). You’ll want to sip it about 2-4 minutes after exiting the water to offset the afterdrop.
We hope to see you there!
