Ocean Swim, Saturday, September 2nd @ 8 am, Tower 9 in Huntington Beach *CANCELED DUE TO RAIN*
September 2, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

*CANCELED DUE TO RAIN*
You’re invited to our ocean swim: meet at (HB City) Tower 9 off PCH & Huntington Street. Meet at 8 am and in the water by 8:10. Usually done by 9 am-ish, depending on length of swim.
**Waves are forecast for 4-6 feet. If you’re not able to swim 300 yards in 7 minutes or less, DO NOT COME! The waves will be high.
*Our usual swim is 1,200-1,600 yards. That’s 2-3 Towers, parallel to shore, once we’re beyond the breakers.
Some caveats:
Water temp is finally warming up!! It has been 62-67 F recently. Generally, Surfline is more accurate with water temps, but this varies daily.
Oh, and the wave conditions have been influenced heavily by the wind and the swells. Some mornings it’s been choppy; others, it’s been very calm. Wind has been the greater creator of surface chop recently. The south swell has been more dominant as it’s summertime.
Keep in mind that if there is a marine layer, it will make it feel a little cooler.
If you need fins to help you swim, that’s cool.
You can wear fins for extra propulsion and confidence through the waves.
We’re fin-friendly. Some of us are triathletes, some are swim runners, some are training for lifeguard tryouts, some are interested in cold-water immersion. Heck, some of us are in it for fun, fitness and friends.
Whatever your motivation, you’re welcome to join us so long as you can swim 300 yards continuously and can swim 1000 yards in one session. Even if you need fins to do so. As Tom said, “Fins are the greatest swim hack ever!”
